"My First Time" ads... whaaaa ? Creeeeeppppyy !!!
#1
I saw one of these last night. I was very confused.

Democrats want virginal teenaged girls to want to have sex with President Obama because "He's a great guy" ?

Ok, I know, it's about your first time voting. But the innuendo... geez. Creepy.

Edgy and hip ad misses the mark and lands into Creepsville.

What's truly bizarre is the onslaught of Republican Twitter denizens who countered that a girl's first job is more important than their first time voting, because they thought the ad was about a girl's first time having sex.

Lena Dunham is a 26 year old woman and is the creator and star of the HBO series "Girls".
She is not a "virginal teenaged girl" by any stretch of the imagination.

It becomes clear very quickly that she is talking about voting.

If it's creepy to you I think you need to ask yourself why young women discussing sex, even in an oblique way as a marketing device, creeps you out.

This ad is NOT aimed at middle-aged men.

What Reagan was trying to do in Illinois, Michigan and Ohio was to harvest usually Democratic blue-collar votes — the consistent target of his personal campaigning in the Great Lakes states. Whenever he is near voters who might possibly be Democrats, Reagan likes to remind them that he came from that side of the political tracks.

On Thursday night, at a working class bar in Bayonne, N.J., Reagan said, “I know what it’s like to pull the Republican lever for the first time, because I used to be a Democrat myself, and I can tell you it only hurts for a minute and then it feels just great.”

You should absolutely watch it. It's perfect for the intended audience, who will know who Lena Dunham is and that she's not a teenager.
I don't find it creepy at all and as a mom of two young men (19 and 16) I tend to fall on the lil' bit conservative side when it comes to stuff like this.
It's not wise to pretend that people ages 18-25'ish are too unsophisticated to handle an ad like this.

have no clue who Lena Dunham is but i thought the bit was well done and funny. great twist on an otherwise taboo subject for general discussion. i'd much prefer my 19 year old son be talking about this 'first time.' (yeah, that horse HAS left the gate...)

Any truth to the rumor that the Romney campaign is planning a response with their
own hip advertisement aimed at a younger audience titled "My First Missionary Position" ?
