Can't see it. Is it the "If you don't vote for Obama your'e a Racist Pig" theme that I keep hearing ? Yeah. That will work.

It's Chris Rock. It's a comedy bit. It's funny. Why would you think Chris Rock would do something like you described, let alone think that Lemon Drop would find it worth posting?

I've heard that theme expressed in all it's vituperative glory from people who were quite serious. While I understand that Chris is a comedian and it's funny, there's a whole line of thought that is apparently shared througout the Democratic Party. And it pisses me off. Because, dammit, I don't consider myself racist at all. And nobody who knows me has ever called me that.
It enrages me when people call me racist because I refuse to vote for the man. And yes,, my rage is directed at some unknown person being interviewed on NPR who said "If you dont' vote for Obama, it's because you're a racist". It pissed me off so badly I turned off the radio and didn't get the story information or the person's name. I also get enraged when I hear idiots saying I should not vote for Obama because he's got more melanin than I do.

Well, cbelt, it's like the old saying goes: lie down with dogs, get up with fleas. The people out there who are saying things like "Let's make it a White House again" and "Don't Re-N-- in 2012" are the source of your problem, not Chris Rock.

Both sides piss me off. I dont' like racists from either direction. Don't call me a racist and then tell me you're voting for someone because he's the same skin tone as you. And hell yes, I've met a number of folk with more melanin who told me that. I tend to sputter a little bit, but they don't see it as being racist. I had one expert tell me that 'Racist only counts when you're a white person discriminating against a black person". I calmly asked him if that was discrimination. And he said no.

Don't like them folk neither. My grandfather put it on the line to ensure tribal rights for the Shinnecock tribe and stopped an unscrupulous developer from stealing their land and others from stealing their fishing rights.. in the 1950's. They named him an official Chief of the tribe for that. We returned the ceremonial outfit after he died. A number of the tribal elders showed up for his funeral, which caused a bit of a stir in the staid Catholic congregation.
My parents (and my little sister and I ) marched for civil rights in the early 60's (I have vague memories of waving signs and people yelling at us). My whole family have been staunch Republicans for generations. Do not imply that political affiliation equals personal racism. It's offensive, dammit. And, of course, for every finger you point, three more point back at you. Your party isn't 'clean' in history either. Fine. Work to End Racism. Stop Celebrating IT !!! |
