Old G4: Safari 3.1.1
#1
It's old but has some use left in it, bookmarks vanished overnight. Not in trash - where did they go and are they recoverable? Drive dying?

It's not backed up since it's not vital but would like those bookmarks.

I think they should be in User>Your Account>Library>Safari (Bookmarks.plist) or run are search in Finder for Bookmarks.plist. Do you have any other browser on the G4 like Camino if so try running that browser and see if it shows any bookmarks. I know they're not the same as Safari, but it'll give you and idea about the state of your HDD, doubt that's the problem.

I just booted up a G4 and ran a search in the Finder for Bookmarks and it found all the different Bookmarks.plist for Safari, Camino and Firefox.

Good luck!

If Safari opens, but is missing the bookmarks select Help in the Menu enter Bookmarks. Select (Importing and Exporting Bookmarks) then click Show.

You can import bookmarks from Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Mozilla, OmniWeb, and Firefox. You can also import a Safari bookmarks.plist file if you’ve saved one from an older Mac computer.

To import bookmarks:
Choose File > Import Bookmarks.
Browse to find the file that contains the bookmarks you want to import, and then click Import (on Windows, click Open). Normally the file will have “.html” or “.plist” at the end of its name.
If you don’t have a file to import, or can’t find the file, you may need to export the bookmarks from the other browser.

Exporting bookmarks from another browser:
