How about this scenario, I have a bunch of computers which can only upgrade to Lion. How do I go about buying Lion for those machines? Point me to the official Apple upgrade path. If you don't find one, could you go ahead an pay the freight to get me a half dozen new computers in order for me to have a version of Mac OS which still receives bug fixes and security updates?
Buy 10.6 DVD (actual version is 10.6.3) from Apple Store, $20
Call Apple and aks for a download code for Lion, last I heard they still allowed you to download it, but only if you called. Not sure if it's $20 or $29.
I already have Snow Leopard and in fact bought Lion for this just in case scenario. I didn't know you could still update to Lion*. Thanks for the heads up on Snow Leopard still being sold, I have a client still on 10.5.
*Here's a
post describing the type of experience some people received after calling Apple:
" It is a well-kept secret, apparently even from Apple employees. Be prepared for explaining. I went through 7 Apple representatives, during 4 phone calls before getting someone who knew what was going on and could handle this order correctly. Also, be prepared to wait. I received an order confirmation immediately, but it took a day to receive the email with the download information."
Having read more than a few accounts of Apple telling people they could not upgrade to Lion after Mountain Lion shipped, I was a bit concerned. Good to know you just have to be persistent. Here's the
link for how to upgrade to Lion.
