Living in an Island nation I feel the pain of S. Korean

Families. The Philippines is notorious for Ferry calamities. S Korea not so much.
They are a very closely and tightly knit country and community of culture and traditions.

We went to a local hotel for Lilian's Birthday April 16. I saw several S. Korean guests leave the dining room in tears

As a 100 ton Sail Endorsed Captain, I hope the Captain of this vessel fulfilled
his obligations like a true Mariner . . .

I dont think he did, Haiku. I think he jumped ship pretty fast..could be wrong but I thought I read this.

From Reuters

"(Reuters) - The captain of the South Korean ferry that capsized off the southwest coast was facing a criminal investigation on Thursday, an official said, amid unconfirmed reports that he was one of the first people to jump to safety as the vessel began"

I was shocked at how fast this went from bad to awful. When I first saw the story, the ferry was listing but rescuers were on hand and I thought it looked like they'd get everyone off. Next thing I knew, the ship had capsized and hundreds trapped. Horrible.

unimaginable tragedy, I really can't grasp it.

We also have many Korean American families in our community and they are shocked and horrified by this.

and it does appear that the crew got off first.
