There's stupid, and then there's Tennessee GOP stupid.

The Daily Show and/or Colbert are gonna have fun with this one.

I think having a combination mop sink and Wudu station is a good idea. We have lots of muslim visitors at work, and it's not safe for them to be hoppping around on one foot washing their feet in the sinks.

Freedom and respect need to go hand in hand.

And I always hated having to lift a heavy mop bucket up to empty it into a slop sink. Saves on back injuries !

Well, that's Tennessee for you--a real foot washing sink would have a spray nozzle.

I have this mental image of the lawmakers freaking out when they walked into the bathroom and saw that sinister sink. OMG OMG WTF. What a sad story.

Some Christians seem to think that religious freedom only applies to Muslims when saying such freedom applies to Muslims helps Christians do their religious thing.

You know what would have been a neat story?

Building managers and legislative staffers have sought to reassure some concerned Tennessee lawmakers that recent renovations at the state Capitol did not install special facilities for Muslims to wash their feet before praying... because the facilities included no more that a common mop sink and many felt that it was disrespectful not to have installed a complete suite of bathing devices, rails and a drying station of sufficient quality to show their respect for people of faith.

Immersion bath for impromptu baptisms ? Smoking room for Rasta? Goat butchering station ? Sacrificial bull furnace for the followers of Baal ?

If the followers of Baal and goat-sacrificing Vodun priests are likely to use the legislative bathrooms for their sacrifices and smelting, why not?

Better to have decent blood-drains and a reliable furnace that's up to code than to have to clean up after an improvised blood-sacrifice and bull furnace.
