GOP reaches out to Hispanics
#1
Time for another self-diagnosis report.

http://shannynmoore.wordpress.com/

Congressman Young (R-AK) said, “My father had a ranch; we used to have 50-60 wetbacks to pick tomatoes,” he said. “It takes two people to pick the same tomatoes now. It’s all done by machine.”

A trifecta of hubris, stupidity and bigotry.

Yeah took him a day (of probably being phoned every hour by RNC honchos), but he finally said "my bad"

At least Boehner smacked him upside the head immediately. No waffling here...

"Boehner in particular was incensed, saying Young's remarks were "offensive and beneath the dignity of the office he holds." The House's top Republican said there was "no excuse" and that the language warranted "an immediate apology." "

Must be hard to be an old fashioned republican these days...

and of course now... the apology...

""I apologize for the insensitive term," Young, a House member since 1973, said in a statement. "There was no malice in my heart or intent to offend; it was a poor choice of words."

In an interview with an Alaska radio station earlier this week, Young used the word "wetbacks" and said the term had been commonly used as a he grew up on a ranch in central California. He issued a statement late Thursday saying he had "meant no disrespect," but the reaction throughout the day had been heated -- particularly from his own Republican leadership. "

The very fact that the word is so ingrained in his brain that he can use it without even realizing that he was insulting people is telling...

Between wetbacks and mop sinks, it's been a fun week for the GOP.

I can't for the life of me figure out why they have trouble attracting minorities....

Between wetbacks and mop sinks, it's been a fun week for the GOP. (and yes I realize that the mop sink episode involved state, not national GOP folks)

And the top Republicans weren't "incensed" because what he said was wrong - it was because it makes the party look bad. The Hispanics are too smart to fall for what the current crop of Republican know-nothings are falling far.

You seem to believe that republicans enjoy eating baby mexicans for lunch. Do you have pictures?

I'd give Republican leadership more credit than that. Boehner admonished Young's remark as very plainly.

A lot of rednecks eat bigotry up. This group has been the Republicans' target since Pres. Nixon was in office. It has been extremely successful in the south and parts of the mountain west.
