The writing is on the wall...

I think that for a lot of us, this forum is a fun place to argue because we "know" who we are arguing with. Even the sock puppets are familiar. So yeah, it would be nice to have a place to congregate which wasn't beholden to a sponsor or a commercially-based host. This forum has a very particular dynamic which is going to be almost impossible to replicate unless we all do it together. And yeah, I'd like to see the much maligned right wingers follow, too. I guess I'm in a minority but I'm just as fond (for lack of a better word) of some of them as I am the rest of you. But people who only come here to b*tch about this side could just stay away, and that would be lovely.

PS: A/S won't work. They've got their own dynamic going and it would be impossible to shoehorn this one into it, plus naturally they wouldn't want us to try to change their dynamic even if it was possible.

Hmmm... I missed that anyone suggested Nastyforum.

I agree on all of the above.... I want a place to get more deeply informed about current events in an interactive way with people I kind of "know." Wondering what will replace this forum for me when it's gone. I suppose the main forum will have more political discussions and current events as a result of this one being canned.
One positive note: I will not feel the slightest twinge of sadness if the archives are not avaialble :-)

It's in the OP.

I have the same question as Black about the sponsorship question. The comments being made about that on the other thread don't make sense.

If you log onto macresource.com, then click on "forums," you see one message that the forum sponsor is OWC. Then you see two subforums listed, and neither has the OWC sponsorship message when you click on them individually.

So, by saying there is no sponsor for the political side, it sounds as though Larry is trying to say he doesn't want the OWC name associated with the political side, or he doesn't want moderators to bother with it, or both.

I agree with what others have said that this political forum is unique and would be difficult to replicate elsewhere. That being said, it's traffic is quite light and not meritorious of huge moderator resources.

I think clearer rules for participation might be helpful, especially regarding personal attacks, which have gotten pretty bad lately. However without consistent enforcement that's probably meaningless.
Don't know what the answer is.

How many of us would pay to play? I probably would.

I would if it was cheap enough. But I'd feel like a big sucker.

I agree with $tevie 100%. I was writing a post in my head while I was out walking and was going to say virtually the same thing, right down to the word "know" in quotes.

If a forum like this was set up on a remote site, would you folks register and frequent it?
I can't help but think of the other two phorums that were set up around big exodus time.

Problem is, if someone sets up another forum for political discussions, it will probably NOT be done by using the Phorum software, which seems to be a big sticking point for users here.

On the other hand, if we don't consider it an exodus but rather the annex or coffee shop for this forum, perhaps reproducing the DM/MR appearance wouldn't be so necessary.

There were two? I only knew about AppleSwitcher.

Wasn't one set up by that wacky cowboy guy? His membership was always really low... MRF and AS have gotten the most use from me.
