Also-- there's an auto-hide feature in place. There's no reason the reports from this side of the forum can't just be ignored. The "sucks resources" statement makes no sense.

I'm not following it either... Larry said that it isn't a money issue.

Huh ? How so ?
Well, I can always go tease the juveniles on Reddit some more.

Larry said that this side of the forum sucks 'resources' (but not monetary resources) and there is no sponsor - the way he said it, it sounds like a situation that he is not happy with.
Been meaning to ask all day, but this job gets in the way sometimes-- what exactly does he mean by "sponsors?"
From the OTHER side:

note that this side has no such sponsor... I'm sorry, I can't believe that's what is meant. If the main forum was broken out into subfora, would each need its own sponsor?
If you go to the main forum page that shows both forums http://forums.macresource.com/

It also shows the "sponsored by OWC" So, is this side of the forum sponsored only up until the time you enter it?

Let's step back.
Macresource has been neglected for a long time. There was a recent decision on the part of our sponsor to devote some resources to vamping up Price.com/Macresource with a focus on revenue production, which he had likely been meaning to do for quite a while.
Hence the current push to look at the way things are currently and figure out what, if any changes need to be made. Not all of the behind the scenes changes have been announced publicly, and I don't know if they will be. The bulk of my knowledge about this is based on individual communications with no clear permission to pass it on publicly, so I'm not interested in being any more specific. If you want to think I'm full of it, be my guest.
So, yes, suddenly there is a hard look being taken at what a prospective new visitor will experience when they come to Macresource, and naturally a hard look being taken at the forum, and yes, it's pretty clear our sponsor does not want OWC's name attached to the ranting forum, and it's not hard to understand why.

So in a way, hal here and FranX on the other side could be right that that's the way Larry is framing "sponsorship." Still unclear though is how "sponsorship" for a subforum would work. Will it go up for bids?
Will there be a schedule of fees for different levels of sponsorship?

Problem is, if someone sets up another forum for political discussions, it will probably NOT be done by using the Phorum software, which seems to be a big sticking point for users here.

On the other hand, if we don't consider it an exodus but rather the annex or coffee shop for this forum, perhaps reproducing the DM/MR appearance wouldn't be so necessary.

It would be easy-peasy to set it up with Phorum software.
I'd think we'd want to reproduce the basic functionality but be careful to steer clear of any graphics or names or color schemes that could be considered infringements on any other site.

If a forum like this was set up on a remote site, would you folks register and frequent it?
I can't help but think of the other two phorums that were set up around big exodus time.

There were two? I only knew about AppleSwitcher.
Not counting Nastyforum®™ here.
There were two others that users set up quickly using Phorum.
They saw a little traffic for a while but the bulk of users chose OWC. Guess they thought they'd get free stuff or something...

thing is, i might migrate to another forum but only if only people from here were there. the devil you know sort of thing. even if i disagree with your views i can deal with you all because i know at least you love macs. (well, most of us do. there's one poster on the other side i'm not so sure of...)

There was Macinforum which was set up by Tempe aka papercup, and someone else set one up and I feel terrible that I can't remember who. So there were three "alternative forums" set up when everyone left Dealmac (this does not include AS which was started earlier than that), but everyone chose this one to frequent. One died pretty fast as I recall but Macinforum hung in a bit longer.
