"Why isn't New Orleans Mother's Day parade shooting a 'national tragedy'?"

Did I mention the shooter is still on the loose? I have? Just checking. Police have released photos and video of one of the suspects, but he is still at large.

Now take a moment and imagine a Mother's Day Parade in the suburbs of Denver, a neighborhood in Edina or a plaza in Austin where bullets rain down on civilians and even hit children. I can't help but imagine the around-the-clock news coverage. And I can't help but think it's because most of America can identify with the fear of being bombarded with gunfire while just enjoying a parade in the middle of town. But America can't identify with being at a parade in the "inner city" where "gang violence" erupts. The "oh my God, that could happen to me" factor isn't present with a story about New Orleans or the Chicago southside.

the guy has a point

the still at large suspect who has been ID'd seems to have a thing for high capacity clips and stolen guns, and had been released on only $15K bail for earlier gun and drug charges.

but about the reporting, since nobody was killed and we are nation where homicide by gun is a many-times-a-day event, it won't be in national media more than a day or two. Doesn't mean that locally though it isn't a serious tragedy leading to a lot of soul searching and hopefully some action.

A known criminal is poor argument for the gun control propaganda as obviously he is not going to be a subject of any proposed legislation...

Unfortunately, violence is rampant here. What was the most disquieting to the residents though, was the timing-- it's pretty much unheard of for there to be a shooting on Mother's Day, during a second line. It shows a distinct disrespect of the shooters towards the traditions of the city. (Not that these shooters would show any respect toward anything of course, but you get my point.)
