Mac min 1.25ghz will boot os9?
#1
I've been googling but not all pages agree so I thought I would ask here. I'm interested in running a small os9 computer purely for my own tinkering pleasure.

I have OS9 installed on mine. I believe it is a 1.25. Of course, it's been shut down and wrapped up on a shelf for quite some time now so I may be remembering completely wrong.

I feel like the mini was a post-OS X-only Mac. It'll load the classic environment to emulate Mac OS 9, but I don't think it can natively boot into it. I have a 1.25Ghz mini here, and I don't think it has media to boot OS 9 only... But this goes so far back in the annals of time that my knowledge and recall are fuzzy... 8 years since I bought mine. Maybe 9? Were they out in 2005 or 2004?

I don't think so.

Pretty sure the MDD G4s were among the last to have OS 9 bootability, and only certain models.

:agree:
They came out with a model sans FW800 that would boot OS 9, the MDD FW800 won't.

No, but it will run OS 9 programs in the classic environment in either panther or tiger.

Yep. I'd suggest Tiger for that fine little guy. Tiger even has a fairly modern web browser available for it. Panther is too limited (I know, even my G3 iMac does better on Tiger than Panther, but I'm stuck on the latter. Anyone want to swap a retail Leopard disc for a retail Tiger disc?????

The last/fastest Macs that could boot directly into Mac OS 9.2.2 from my memory are the following.

G4 MDD Dual 1.25 GHz FW-400.
Titanium PowerBook G4 1GHz
iBook G3 900 MHz (I think this was the very last product introduced that could boot OS 9.2.2).

I own all of the above, not sure of what was last in the other product lines. iMac G4 ??? MHz, eMac ??
