Just got an iPhone last spring. I haven't even learned my way around iOS 6, and it's time for a new OS?

Welcome to mobile computing.

Until recently, this was even worse on Android.

I think iOS7 is a big jump, with iOS8 going to be a polishing OS (think 10.5 to 10.6).

No more generic musical note album covers for songs lacking their own. The new music app creates an album cover with artist and album name.

My initial reaction is that the lack of contrast or background color leaves everything looking very cold. Hopefully this will be something we can customize in the future. The thinness of the lines in icons makes a little hard to recognize but that might be something I get used to in time.

I did find that you can get rid of the 'whooshing' and make the fonts bold by going into the accessibility options. MUCH better.

Settings -> General -> Accessibility -> Increase Contrast : on

Helps a lot with the home screen!

Argh!

BEWARE: Some a-hole at Apple decided to change the alarm tones used on pre-existing alarm settings!

I overslept this morning because my f-ing alarm changed from an annoying beep to a quiet trill.

(Had a backup alarm set for 10 minutes later using a custom alarm tone and that one kept its setting.)

Probably the same A-hole who thought it was a good idea to put new Apple Apps (Newstand / Bookshelf) on your Home Page, thereby messing it (and all the subsequent pages as the change cascades) up, regardless of how long you spent setting up your device the way you want.

I don't like the fact that after entering the passcode you have to press "ok". If I recall correctly under iOS 6 as soon as you enter the passcode it would immediately go to the home page, or am I missing something?

My description of my iPhone 5 with IOS 7: Contrast Deficient! Good luck trying to use the screen in the sunlight.

My suggestion Black bold text not on grey background!
