Is this, the part in bold, still true?
As for data, Verizon charges $50 for 1GB; $60 for 2GB; $70 for 4G; $80 for 6GB; $90 for 8GB; and $100 for 10GB. If users want to add more data, Verizon charges an additional $10 for 2GB more each month.
My daughter is about to go on a Verizon Share plan with her grandmother, will save them both some money since they both want new iPhone 5Ss. They are going with a 1GB data plan. I have read that they can set up an alert, if they are about to go over, but I want to know if they can still add the 2GB of data for $10, if they are about to go over. The only thing I have seen on the Verizon site is that an extra 1GB of data is $15, if you just go over, but I have read that they will offer you the 2GB for $10, if you add it, before you exceed your limit, if your plan is for 1GB or more per month.
Can anyone with this plan confirm this is how it works?

If they do individual plans with the 'Verizon Edge', they offer a 6GB data plan for $30.

No, they are going to do the shared plan, as it is cheaper.
Mother-in-law has the unlimted data now, but doesn't use even 1GB a month, so this should be a lot cheaper. Just wondering if what I have read about them letting you buy the extra 2GB for $10 is still true.

I don't have the plan but when I was looking at a change last month the salesman told me overage charges were $15/1GB. Never received anything in writing, though.
Just a thought, maybe there is a price difference for adding on the fly as opposed to a penalty charge for going over??

Yep, that is what I am trying to find out. I know that if they go over, it is $15 per 1GB, that is posted on the website, but it looks like you have the option of adding 2GB for $10 once a month. I am not sure if you have to be at the top 10GB data tier for this to be true, of if you can add it at any level, from 1GB on up.
If no one here has the share plan, and can't confirm, I guess I will have to wait till they get set up to see if that is an option, when you log into their account.

If you get a warning that you are about to go over, call Vzw customer service and ask to go up to the next data level and have the change BACKDATED to the beginning of the current billing cycle. This will get you another 2GB for $10 (or go higher if you are far from the end of the current billing cycle and you think you will use more than 2GB). You must do this before the end of the current billing cycle to avoid the $15/1GB overage charge. Then, once in the next billing cycle, you can go back down to your original level, but it can't be backdated. So, make that change as soon as you can after the start of the new billing cycle and make sure customer service puts it into effect that day. You will be prorated for the data plan that month: a day or two (depending on when you called) at the higher rate, and most of the month at the lower rate. Or, if the pending overage is anticipated to be only 1GB or less, just leave the plan unchanged and pay the $15. There is no fee for changing the data plan, no change to the contract dates, no change to upgrade dates, etc.
Edit: You can change the data plan from any level, to any level. Up or down. But backdating to the beginning of the current billing cycle can only be done when going up.
