Allow Pop-ups in Safari?
#1
Is there any way to allow certain sites in Safari to create pop-up windows? I can do it in Firefox, but I have to manually allow pop-ups in Safari. Is there any automatic way to allow a site to pop-up a window?

No. Thank goodness.

What you want to do is code an actual LINK to the pop-up that a user has to click. A user-requested pop-up is ignored by Safari's pop-up blocker and opens right up.

You can use pithhelmet instead of the built-in pop up blocker. It'll let you set individual site preferences including whether to block pop ups. And pop unders. And ad blocking. And blinking or scrolling text. It's quite handy.

Thanks for the info. I was afraid that would be the answer. It's too bad, because Firefox's method has a certain appeal...if I can just remember to either (a) use firefox when I need the site or (b) remove the pop-up blocker from safari, then I'd be okay.

I'll look into pithhelmet.

If the site's coders haven't figured out how to offer up a site that doesn't rely on pop-ups, then how can it be a site worth going to?
(Don't answer that.)

Some valuable educational software uses pop-ups to report scores, register your name, etc.

Being able to permit pop-ups is essential to what I do.

If you download the Google tool bar does it allows popups when you say it is OK on the mac? Works on the PC side...then it allows the occasional one with CTRL key.
