Have you successfully dealt with plantar fasciitis?
#21
I wore night splints for 3 solid years and did the arch stretch numerous times per day. Cured it. My night splint
boots didn't have the tensioners on the sides to really crank that front part of your foot up so I rolled up
socks and crammed them in to lift the ball of my foot. I also started wearing a really good sports insoles in
all of my shoes that were made for a high arch. Another thing I did was stop walking barefoot even in the
house I wear either Crocs or Birkenstock sandals.

BTW: I still say all this Plantar crap is coming from crappy Chinese shoes that aren't made worth a crap.
I never heard of people having these problems until nearly of all shoes were being made in China. Now
it's commonplace.

I had plantar fasciitis very bad. I could barely walk even after trying many of the normal solutions. Some things helped in the short term such as expensive shoes, rocker style shoes, stretching, cortisone shots, night splits, taping, and the golf ball roll but none of them solved my problem. I even tried "dry needling" where they purposely poke the tendon with a needle a bunch of times, put your foot in a boot for six weeks, and hope for the best. No joy. I had an ultrasound of my foot and the doctor measured the tendon as 3x as thick as it should have been, meaning it was severely inflamed.

Since everything else had failed I was ready for anything. I hired a private yoga teacher. For awhile I couldn't even take my shoes off and when I did it was severely painful. Eventually I became much more comfortable though. I credit the warrior I and warrior II poses as being tremendously helpful. I still wanted to improve even more so I did relent in getting custom orthotics. I had my feet cast in plaster and received my orthotics several weeks later. Total cost was around $600 but I am basically cured at this point. I can even walk without shoes now or wear sandals and I am 30 pounds heavier than I was when it started.

As you can see from this thread everyone has found their own solution. This is a long winded version of my solution.

I used to have it really bad. I tried a lot of the supposed "custom orthodics" that were really just over priced standard pieces.
It went away after I had molds and custom orthotics made. The Molds and first pair cost me about $240 from a small shoe shop in Seattle. The pain was gone in a week.
If you are in the Seattle area Pm me and I will give you the company name

i'm only saying they have greatly helped me. i tend to trust users over lawyers seeking clients. maybe there's a site somewhere where actual users in large numbers are making the same assertion.

Count me as another one who has had good luck with Shape-Ups. Had physical therapy (for months) but arch supports helped more; however, Skechers Shape-Ups (the ones with the really thick, ugly soles) turned out to be most useful of all.

Obviously, others will have different results. One guy at my office (same age as me :oldfogetteSmile blames Shape-Ups for his pain, whereas I absolutely hate having to wear any other shoes. :dunno:

Roll the golf balls under your feet..it's nearly free and may work.

Mine lasted for about a year. I have a very high arch and found that Birkenstocks and Earth shoes helped. I think mine was caused by running in shoes without adequate arch support.

One way I found to relieve the pain was by rolling a frozen bottle of water back and forth with my foot.

Stretching and decent orthotics helped mine. My wife wears orthotics and still gets PF occasionally. I haven't had it in several years.

i've posted about this before. i had PF for a number of years that had hobbled me and tried all the things you had to no avail. i needed a new pair of slip resistant work shoes and an Amazon search brought me to the page for Skechers Shape-Ups Work Shoes. there are a ton of reviews that speak to these shoes helping tremendously with PF. i was skeptical but needed work shoes anyway so i ordered them.

within three days my PF was improved. within 2 weeks it had cleared up entirely and hasn't come back in over two years. i was absolutely shocked since there were mornings where i could barely walk when i first got up or even after sitting at my computer a few minutes nearly collasping when i got up to move.

my recommendation only goes to the work shoes which are leather. the ordinary athletic shape-ups don't have the support. i bought a pair and found them unwieldly even though i was used to the fred munster design of shape-ups in general. the claims of losing weight and shaping your butt are bogus and Skechers has paid dearly for that. they legally can't make any medical claim but do look into the help many reviews on Amazon have found though you may have to research the reviews on the women's version to see what i'm referring to.

And I've previously mentioned that Skechers ended my long bout with Achilles tendinitis. For a shoe designed to bilk people of their money they ironically turned out to be just what I needed.

Should you be interested in giving them a try for your PF, you might be able to find a reasonably priced pair here:
