Questions about OWC quad-interface HD enclosures

Was there ever a version for ATA drives? I've been assuming not, but could be living in a dream world. Also, at what point were drives larger than 2 TB supported?

I don't believe so. At most, given the ATA time frame, the cases would have been 3-port capable - USB2, FireWire 400, and FireWire 800.

I can't speak for OWC cases but there are a few out there that are tri-interface and support both SATA _and_ IDE drives. Tri as in a form of Firewire, USB and ESata. I have one. Just last week, I remember seeing a drive dock that supports both SATA and IDE drives.

I just acquired an OWC quad-interface drive (500GB) on eBay for a very small amount. I wanted the enclosure, it just happened to contain a drive. I've been assuming that the enclosure was for SATA drives, but the description didn't actually say. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

It would be nice if it's recent enough to house drives larger than 2TB, assuming it's for SATA drives. Something else I'll find out in the fullness of time.

There was never an OWC Enclosure for ATA Drives with eSATA. We didn't add eSATA until after SATA drives came onto the scene. As long as seller represented correctly, would have to be a Serial ATA enclosure.

over 2.2TB support came about in late 2009 - initially only on solutions that were over 2TB and fully transitioned by early 2010 for the most part. First over 2TB drives were late 2009 also. hard to believe already almost 5 years ago... and now this year, after being stuck for a couple years at 4TB, seeing things jump to 8-10TB per drive 3.5" by year end expected.
