Tried to use ApplePay at CVS yesterday
#1
And thrice it asked for an "Alternate form of payment."

Same credit card I use for everything else.

Anyone else encountered this? Were they just asking for the physical card to confirm? The store had not yet done any ApplePay transactions.

CVS is deliberately blocking ApplePay. Those better informed than I can explain. I won't be buying anything from CVS even though I don't own an iPhone.

I do not have an iPhone, but avoid CVS at all costs because of their usurious markups on prescriptions (and most other things, too).

to be fair, CVS banned tobacco sales, so they try hard to suggest they care about the health of their customers.

hey, that must be why they cleared the shelves of all the obesity poisons, too

Yesterday, CVS blocked NFC. I used Google Wallet there for 2 years. Til yesterday. They still take debit cards though.

Rite Aid has also blocked Apple and Google mobile payment systems

They're part of that "CurrentC" thing as well. Why not get their own Cha-Ching going? Apple doesn't have the market cornered on that. Everybody wants a piece of your wallet.

I'm going back to cash

Mobile payment systems = constant surveillance of your identity, contact information, physical location, money habits and purchases by every financial, tech, marketing, and advertising company under the sun

The government makes more money off the sale of a pack of smokes than they do, so why bother selling them?

Plus, they can claim to be the "good guys"...
