Hey, lucky me. I received my new Santander (formerly Sovereign Bank) Debit card in the mail today. Only problem is I closed my Sovereign account(s) back in March of 2012.

Did you have overdraft protection on the account? Sometimes banks neglect to close overdraft lines and the debit card would then be linked to the line of credit.

I doubt it. I remember sitting down with the branch president and making it very clear I wanted to sever all ties. I remember filling out all the forms and him giving me a final check for my balances, and asking me why I was closing the accounts. I told him I wasn't about to start paying fees and that was that...or so I thought.
