This looks very easy (magnetic), comes in both exhaust hood and microwave exhaust configurations, and is reasonably priced. May be especially good for seniors. For now can only be ordered from Lowes:
Lowe's is the only retail outlet that offers StoveTop FireStop®, but they do not stock our product in their stores. You can, however, special order it from them. Here's how you do it.
Our vendor # is 59536 (Williams-Pyro). You have three product options from which to choose:
If you have a range hood above your stove, you will need our Venthood product which is:
Lowe's SOS #339995 (Mfr P/N 675-3.)
If you have a microwave above your stove, you will need our Microhood product which is:
Lowe's SOS #339996, and designate your color choice: white (Mfr P/N 677-2) or black (Mfr P/N 677-1.)
Thanks for your interest!

StoveTop FireStop Microhood Fire Suppressors Recalled
WilliamsRDM is recalling about 103,000 StoveTop FireStop Micohood fire suppressors because the front canisters could fall, failing to suppress a fire.
The suppressors, which use a chemical power to put out a kitchen fire, mount over a residential cooktop stove, underneath a microwave oven. No incidents or injuries have been reported.
Customers should contactWilliamsRDM for a free kit, which includes instructions and a tool for performing an on-site inspection and repair of the units. Or, units can be shipped back to WilliamsRDM for a free inspection and repair. The company is contacting consumers directly.
The Microhood units are plastic and/or metal and come in black and white. They are about 14 inches long, 4 inches wide and 3 inches high. The recalled model numbers are 677-1 (black) and 677-2 (white) with a ‘Replace Before’ date of June 2014 thru August 2019. This date is located on the bottom of each unit.
The units were sold at HD Supply, Wilmar Industries, Louisville Fire and Safety, and other contractor supply companies from June 2009 to August 2014 for about $80
WilliamsRDM can be contacted toll-free at (888) 616-7976 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST Monday through Friday or online at stovetopfirestop.com. Click on ‘StoveTop FireStop Microhood Safety Notice’ at the bottom of the page for more information.

Looking at the video, it looks like the unit needs to be placed exactly over the burner where the fire is burning.
I admit that cooking is not one of my areas of expertise, but do people normally cook with that much grease to have to worry about it catching on fire? Doesn't sound very healthy.

Doesn't take that much grease. If you have a range hood, placing one between the front and back burners on each side might be fine. I think that's what the fire department folks were recommending. Or if you're like me and rarely use the back burners just place over the front burners. If you have a microwave exhaust I don't think you have any choice but to place it so it dumps out over the front burner.
