same here, which is why I posted. I have 2 MBPs 2011 with TB and USB2. I recently bought a USB3 mac mini (2012). So far I survived with USB2 on those MBPs but I am getting tired of it. I need to look into a TB/USb3 hub.

Well, I just bought some TB to USB cables from Monoprice to add another external HD. I did like FireWire tho...

I think you mean, six months ago you could buy one that is faster. Too bad it comes in formats not compatible with Mac, like PCIe, though it may eventually trickle down.

Can the mini? There are slower ones that are 6 TB. With the new 3D-NAND having 48 layers, it should be only a year or two before 2.5" SSD's have more capacity than 3.5" HD's.

That is external storage. Can you detail a scenario where the mini can do something useful that uses that speed and capacity to it's fullest? The best I can think of is split the RAID in half and get half the speed transferring data from one partition to the other.
