On our first trip to this amazing country.
Just spent a few days in Nara, now spending a weekend in Kyoto.
Always fun visiting a country for the first time!

Enjoy your trip! I was there in '86 and want to go back. If you don't yet know the language, try to learn what you can. Surprising to me, but I found it relatively easy and there are always folks to help you learn. Of course, reading and writing are a different matter.
Shoot lots of pix.

Welcome, sek! Or, irrasshaimase... You'll here that every time you enter a store, restaurant, etc. If you like sushi, I recommend what's called onigiri ("o" is honorific) sushi, onigirizushi, in speech. "s" change to "z". Actually, I'm not in Japan right now, so I can't really tell you welcome. But it's been home for so many years. Try a few words in Japanese, it won't hurt. But, unless a person is like our daughter who was raised in Japan since a baby, it takes a loooong time to gain a bit o' fluency, and that's working at it every day in study and living in total Japanese neighborhoods. That's us. Fluent now, but I reckon it's a bit like being a concert musician. You don't just "pick" up a language like Japanese as an adult.
Food, that's where it's at for me!! Oh me, the best food in the world, and I've been about everywhere in the world. Hey, even eat at a Denny's in Japan, it's great fresh food! You done got me started...

Have fun, loved Japan. They have beer in vending machines.
If you end up in hiroshimo, try okonomiyaki (I think we were at the train station, but there were 30+ shops in row all serving it up).

Hey, welcome! I'm between Osaka and Kobe, within an hour by train of Nara and Kyoto. Should be pretty good weather. Monday is a national holiday, so many are on a 3-day weekend right now. Are you heading up to Tokyo later?
