anybody have one of those OWC external enclosures for a 2013 Macbook Air SSD that I can rent?

Just got an SSD from a 2013 MBA 11". I'd like to verify that it works, format it, etc. Looking at OWC's site, looks like the only option for the enclosure that's compatible with this drive costs $110 + shipping. http://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/MAU3ENPRPCI/ Yowza. Plenty steep for what will likely be 20 minutes worth of use and then no need for it ever again.

Anybody have one that they would be willing to have me ship you the SSD, have you erase and test it, and then ship it back? I'd cover shipping both ways, and a few bucks for your troubles.

Just trying to decide what makes sense. I guess I could just sell the SSD AS-IS, though I'm nearly 100% certain that it works fine.

This might work if you just want to test it out.

it's a totally different interface, it wouldn't work.

Did the SSDs change between 2012 and 2013 for the MBAs? If not, I may have what you need.

I bought a 240GB Transcend Jetdrive 520 SSD for my son's mid 2012 11" MBA. It came with an external enclosure to swap the original SSD into so it could be used externally.

This is what I bought:

If this has the same interface, let me know...I'd be happy to help.

According to the OWC page under the "compatibility" tab, the 2012 and 13 SSD's are different. Shucks. Thanks for the offer, though!

The real question is, are they different because the interface is different, or because the shape is different?
For instance, on that page for the OWC enclosure, it lists the Mac Pro (2013) and the 2013 Air as compatible, but OWC makes 4TB upgrades for the Pro, which it doesn't make for the Air (the 4TB is physically rather large).

Ok, I figured that one out, 2012 is still SATA, while 2013 switched to PCIe.

I guess another option would be to figure out if it'll work in a Mac Pro (2013), in which case you could ship it to me, since Mac Pro's are simple to get into.

PCIe to USB bridges a whole different bit. More expensive than the SATA to USB3 by a long shot due to the chipset required. Anyway...

FWIW - a garagesale/clearance is just a couple days away... can count on some there open box at a better cost.

Easy enough to copy context to an external UDN drive, swap out SSDs, then copy content back to the MBA.

Let's assume I don't have a working MBA at my disposal. What's a UDN drive?
