Scanning Photos

I want to scan several photos at once (Canon). Is there a program to auto split them into individual photos? I don't need a complex program like Photoshop. Just a simple method or program to do it.

The software on my Epson V500 scanner lets me set several scan areas on the same flatbed, then those open up (in Photoshop, because that's what I set as the default) as different files.

Image Capture will scan the individual photos into separate files.

On a tangent... I have a Canon 8800 flat bed... planning to fire that up to do the same tasks of scanning photos... what resolution are you selecting, and thought process for resolution selection?

I suspect that much of my scans will never require printing, but would like them to look nice on HD TV during slide shows streamed thru AppleTV.

Generally I choose 400DPI for my print scans as color print paper maxes out at ~200DPI. This will get you a 1600x2400 (4MP) image from a 4x6 and will look good on any 1080p TV. Looking to the future, you could choose a 4K TV target size by scanning at a bit over 600 DPI but you will be getting no more resolution from your print original. However what I've read is scaling up during the scan process is usually preferable to scaling up using software later on.

For photos polaroid sized and up I scan at 300 dpi; smaller ones @ 600 dpi. TIFF. Overkill? Consider the amount of time invested in scanning them in the first place, and if those original photos get lost/damaged there is no way to recover. I wouldn't want to be stuck with JPG as my only option.

I did find I could do this with the Canon software I have. I had to search around and found directions on Canon's website. It works very well.
