It appears to be a piece of networking gear that's mounted in a 19 inch cabinet that's bolted to an earthquake proof mount that is itself mounted to a concrete floor with lead anchors.

Still very nice even if you're only using it as a dumb switch. Good piece of hobby-kit.

Would do a reset-to-factory (hold the little button in during power-up) and if you've got a device that can connect to that serial port, consider installing the latest firmware.

That's was my first thought/question.

$10 for a switch? A little ungainly but I had to buy a four port switch for $40. It was the cheapest I could find, at the time.

My luck, though, I would have bought that and it wouldn't work as just a dumb switch and it would need $50 in ancillary stuff.
