An old favorite on TCM right now

"What in the wide, wide world of sports is a-goin' on here?"

No chance in hell that movie could ever get made today. And we'd all be poorer for the lack of it.

It was great to see it on TCM. I have seen it a couple of times on local TV, once out in the midwest at my parents' home, once here in NYC. In the midwest, they blocked out the n word, among other things: IIRC the fart noises also vanished. In NYC, Lily von Shtupp did not have a last name.

After Brooks showed it to the studio, they had a long list of stuff they wanted removed. Fortunately for us all, he supoosedly did not remove anything, although there are rumors about a line from Sheriff Bart that disappeared, which followed "Is it twoo what they say about how you people are gifted? Oh, it's twoo, it's twoo."

Love Brooks as the Yiddish-speaking Sioux chief.

"You’ve got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know… morons."

"Hep me, hep me, somebody help me!" Oh me, these crazy movies are the kind I like. I laugh just thinking about it. And, what about that other one, wha' was it? Murder by Death, or some such? Had old Colombo, Charlie Chan, etc. in it. "Hey, wake up while I'm talking!" "He's not asleep..." "Oh, sorry about that slanty." Confusedmiley-laughing001:

Governor William J. Le Petomane: Thank you, Hedy, thank you

Hedley Lamarr: It's not *Hedy*, it's *Hedley*. Hedley Lamarr.

Governor William J. Le Petomane: What the hell are you worried about? This is 1874. You'll be able to sue *her*.

One of my all time favorites. Mel Brooks is a genius!

Yes! Murder By Death. GREAT comedy and an incredible cast. Maggie Smith is so hot. "Oh, that's tacky. That is really tacky!"

Got it on DVD years ago. A stellar purchase. No car products commercials, either.
