Anyone here ever rent a specific SUV?

Here's the Hertz page https://www.hertz.com/rentacar/productse...l_cars.jsp they just don't have any SUV options besides a 2 door Jeep.

My car has about 34sf of cargo capacity. Some SUVS have less than that, but many have more. My roof box is 21sf. So the SUV either needs 60sf+ on its own, or crossbars so I can get my roof box on there.

The best option I've found so far is Toyota's rent a car. I can get a highlander for $60/day. A 4Runner is a bit more.

Some of the areas we're going camping will require more clearance than a minivan.

Highlander is a nice car. Just drove a 2017.

Went to hertz and picked a march 26 -april 1. For the week, they had Silverados (at $3700!!), AWD suburban (huge) for $900, AWD Armada for $500 and AWD pathfinders for $400 (all prices with tax and umlmted mileage) and all said "or similar"

Ski racks were optional, for $100.

Enterprise only really had a Tahoe, $500.

Mavic,

Call the specific Hertz locations. They offer many more vehicles than just a 2-door Jeep.

I didn't know the local Hertz location had he RAV4 available until i called and asked about it.

Plush 4 door 4 wheel drive Truck.

That right.
Mine gets almost as much MPG as our Buick Enclave and it is real 4 Wheel Drive.
Air suspension with 4 ride heights and an entry height.

Some auto dealers will rent vehicles. Perhaps with the hope that the rental will result in a sale? Would only take a couple phones to find out.

Our Ford Expedition EL was a former rental. Same size as a Chevy Suburban. Don't know which company had it, somewhere out west. Better than a 4-door pickup, as your gear inside can be locked up, and it's out of the rain.

You might also consider a full-size (not mini) van. I don't think the big-name rental companies offer them, but there are local rental firms that do. GMC/Chevy Express/Savannahs are available with all-wheel drive; Ford Transits maybe (E-series vans no longer made). We used full-sized vans for years, including camping. Had to buy roof racks for the canoes, and carry stools to reach them.

Good idea to check with dealers.

We rented a Ford Escape from Hertz last October for a rally to Colorado. They were the only rental agency that even admitted to having a 4WD that was not a huge truck like thing. It had a roof rack and was quite roomy compared to the Matrix we normally drive.

Fortunately, it was the off season for skiing so they had a couple in the lot when we picked up.
