which Irish Whuskey

a friend is going to Ireland for a week.
they would bring me back a bottle of something not imported to the US.
Any suggestions?
I like Laphroaig normally, though I know there is a world of diff between that and an Irish. But smooth and warm, spice and wood.

I have a bottle of Jameson I got in Ireland. It's obviously a big brand in the US, too, but there are some "flavors" that are not imported.

Tullamore Dew is the other major brand. I've never had it.

Bushmill's is Northern Ireland, which is like, a whole 'nother country, man.

Redbreast Irish Whiskey has a number of different single source variations much like single malts in Scotch. The one's I've tried have been excellent.

Redbreast is the smoothest whiskey I've ever had.

But it doesn't have the peat of a Laphroaig. So if you like your spirits to taste like they've been poured through a clump of dirt and moss, stick with a more peat-y whiskey.


But as for me and my house, mmm... Redbreast...
