Just put an app on your smart phone that will show you AAPL's price. Or bookmark a stock ticker site. In this day and age it's just nuts to have to have it on the forum.

I disagree, it is a not uncommon conversation piece. There is at least one AAPL stock topic on the front page of the forum right now. Many of us own (or owned) AAPL and regularly weep at our lack of gain because we sold far too early.
Or did not have the cash available to invest at various points in time that would have given a really good profit by now.
If you could have scraped together $150 on this day in 1998 to invest in AAPL you would now have $19,436.88.. (Thanks for that link, Ombligo!)

As posted here recently, the 16th anniversary of the iPod introduction was just last month. By a year later the evidence I could see on campus was that they were taking off and Apple stock would being going up soon. $1000 put into AAPL 15 years ago would be worth about $150-160,000 today. I was hoping to put together a few hundred at the time, but all my extra cash was paying off post divorce debts.

Don't put any effort into maintaining it, as I'd rather have you folks happy than aggravated... :-)

While I routinely use it, and I like having it there, I also appreciate that you should not have to jump through hoops to keep it going.

How about just keeping the link to the live update?

Yeah I'd miss it. It's usually the first thing I look at when logging on. Doubt it'll make any difference what I think.

I never would bother to check the current share price of AAPL... so there's of evidence that having it occasionally engenders some casual conversation along the lines of "What's up with AAPL today?"

I also get that it's a pain to maintain if the API to pull it constantly changes.

As an alternative can we have a value displayed there that's arbitrary and could be set by a number of users inputting the same thing? A community barometric number, if you will... maybe by posting an update on a specific, hidden thread you have to know about to set?

It wouldn't be any less random or accurate than the price of AAPL!

....you can have AAPL stock price appear on your iPhone.....so not necessary...

It was a nice thing to have right there all the time. Like a wife, but you really don't need one. Especially one that doesn't function well and is worthless.
Just the link is a great alternative.

I rarely pay it much mind unless someone says, "Hey, look at that Apple stock ticker!"
