USB thumbdrives getting corrupted

Is there heat coming from or inside the port? maybe an extension cable to keep the drive away from the unit.

Interesting idea. I do have an extension cable I can try, and a notch in the console so a cable can come out under the armrest.

Can't you BT the music from an iPhone? That console can get warm.

Alternatively, could you test the theory that it gets too hot in that console by running a usb extension outside the box and try connecting the thumbdrive that way?

Still not sure why you don't BT it. Maybe you have a Basic model, and it doesn't have BT connectivity?

It is the Basic, but even it has BT. I use it with my Android for the phone. Don't keep music on my phone, because my phone is, well, my phone. I'm either in my car, or in my home. Both have great stereos. No need for music on my phone.

FWIW, we have 2 of these that we use in a Honda CRV and a Toyota Tacoma. They get very hot but have worked flawlessly.

Nobody has mentioned that it could be something in Toyota's wiring/hardware/software/something-to-do-with-the-Prius-not-the-stick?

I have the same one Michael links to above for my Volvo '15 S60. It also plugs in the center console. It gets hot certainly, but I haven't had the issue.
I'd check what the software can actually handle. I had a similar issue with my S60 reading.

Turned out there is a limit of indexable (that's not a word, BTW) folders for the Volvo software.

I removed all the LP subfolders and everything is fine now. It has a limit of 1500 folders.

My first suspicion would be the stereo is not unmounting the drive, and every time you turn it off, it just cuts it off, possibly mid-read-write, and eventually it corrupts the file system.

But that's only a suspicion.

I have that exact same model, in a 32 gig size. It is one of the two that gets messed up.
