I watched the first episode last night and I wasn't hot to watch the second at all. Anyone feel the same, but push through to the next episode and beyond and enjoy it?
Anyone enjoying Cobra Kai? (Karate kid TV show 30 years later)

I did watch it an enjoyed it, mostly for the nostalgia.
Bad acting, but some fun wink-and-nod references to the original movies. For me, it did get better, but not a lot better after the first couple episodes. If you're going to enjoy it, it's probably going to be because you're predisposed to because of the movies.

yeah, I loved the movie, but I was 25 at the time - 30 years later, my tastes seem to have changed.... I suppose I'll try the second and see how that goes. I haven't down ANY 30min program in years - it just isn't long enough to tell a story, but this is getting 9.something on IMDB, that usually means a slam dunk, sure thing.

In fact, Ralph Macchio described it as a five-hour movie that they cut into 10 pieces. hal wrote: Wow, I didn't realize it was getting that kind of reaction. I'll suppose those are mostly people our age who saw the movies and enjoy revisiting the characters. Personally, I could see myself giving it a 9, but I can also see why some people wouldn't get it at all. Lots of humor and lots more character development for Johnny, obviously. And fun to see the role reversals. I always knew Daniel was the real bad guy... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_Gz_iTuRMM

I'm really enjoying serialized TV shows these days. The 'old format' just feels entirely fake to me these days. I guess I'll give it another try...

I like it a lot, and finished the season.
It's definitely aimed at a youngish audience, but I don't pay it no nevermind. 30min, used well, tells a lot of story. Not to mention the average episode of Cobra Kai is 30min+ (32min+ for one of my favorites) and not 18+ as on the 'big' networks. Zabka is surprisingly good. I expected Macchio to be good, and he is. Everybody is good, as is the story line. It's predictable, but not annoyingly so. The martial arts is very weak though, not as good as the movie, which wasn't that great, but better. Still, it's got heart, and that counts for a lot with me. I was thinking about something near the season end, and the last moments of the last episode were 'be careful what you wish for' moments. I'll be checking out the next season.

Hackneyed acting, poorly written dialogue, shallowly developed characters. OK story. Nice to see more balance to the good guy-bad guy dynamic. Barney Stinson would be proud. Johnny really likes his Coors.
I thought one of the best parts was how they played the perception of the scope of the final tournament vs the movie. |
