Cockpit view of new lap record by Porche 919 Hybrid Evo
The previous "unbreakable" record of 6:11 for this 12.9 mi track was set in 1983.
This new lap time shatters it by almost a minute.

Was the new record setter wearing a diaper? Leave a brown streak crossing the finish line?
Seriously - congrats to the new record holder!

A battery makes all the difference.

360 KPH top speed (225 MPH), never dropped below 100, most of the times 250+

I’m guessing it was a Porsche, as opposed to a Porche, which sounds like a fancy house addition. My nit to pick for the day.

An impressive achievement. It's surprising how close the car shapes look even after 30 years of wind tunnel tuning. It shows that it takes a lot of tech to improve on the raw horsepower of the previous record. I wonder if by "active aerodynamics" they mean the wings go into a drag reduction position like on current F1 cars. That would cut the acceleration times, and the power needed to hit 228 mph on the straights (don't try to late brake without the extra 900 lbs of downforce). Active suspension is a big contribution, being able to control the ride height so the aero works properly all the time.
My guess is the battery only contributes a few seconds to the time reduction since "boost" only seems to happen after they can store some energy.

The time is absolutely impressive.
But somehow the video doesn't do justice to the actual speeds. It felt to me as though his top speeds were closer to ~100mph.
Maybe it was seeing the 'speedometer' and not realizing it was KPH and not MPH, and me thinking he's not going anywhere near 350mph! I would have seen him pass by at 350kph though.
Even realizing mid vid that it must be KPH, it didn't seem to me that he was rolling that fast. It could be the size of the track. At 30fps, it should have seemed faster, to me.
Maybe if there were some Burma Shave signs.
