What “actions” has Iran taken to provoke us sending ships?

I've read that this is just part of the regular naval rotation the U.S. has done in the area for years. The threats and embellishments are purely for show on the part of Bolton, Pompeo and Trump.

How did Trump know that the Iranians were causing "provocations"? Could it be the US government's intelligence agencies? The same intelligence agencies he seems to be sure have it all wrong about Russia.

Bolton wants to bait Iran into doing something so he can have the war he's wanted forever. Iran isn't taking the bait.
