Bags with battery chargers

When you buy a bag with a cable on the bag you have to buy a battery, right? I thought the bags came with a battery but guess I am wrong.

Do you have to open your bag to prove no lithium is connected? Are there any problems with TSA?

I've seen recommendations to remove the backpack batteries and put them in your stowed luggage, not carry-on luggage. Doesn't make sense to me, but that's what I hear. Does it really matter where they explode, if that's the risk?

Yes, it does matter.

Spare (uninstalled) lithium metal batteries and lithium ion batteries, electronic cigarettes and vaping devices are prohibited in checked baggage. They must be carried with the passenger in carry-on baggage. Smoke and fire incidents involving lithium batteries can be mitigated by the cabin crew and passengers inside the aircraft cabin

Since you never know when you might be required to check your carryon, I think it's a bad idea to have a bag with a built in battery. How hard is it to just have a battery and cord in your "personal item" bag? Having it built into the bag is a PITA. If you need to use it while in the air it will be stuck in the overhead bin, inaccessible.

I always viewed that combination as "a solution in search of a problem". It also adds extra weight to the luggage, you need to remember to recharge your bag, it's a pretty big item to have tethered to your phone, and it's likely to be stored in an inconvenient place most of the time (overhead bin, trunk of car, hotel room).

Dont do it. More and more airlines and airports are banning the stuff in the checked baggage, connected or unconnected. Especially overseas.

On my last flight out of the Shanghai there was an entire line of passengers at Delta AFTER they checked in their luggage and got boarding passes, BEFORE even proceeding to security check, their checked in luggage was being pulled immediately for having anything with batteries. Absolutely anything. And that was before they had a chance to leave the check in area.
At the check in ALL battery type chargers and batteries had to be pulled out and inspected individually.
That part has been going on for a while now...

My thoughts exactly. I have never had a problem with a battery in my purse.

You really don't need to carry battery packs for your devices any more. The last couple of flights I've been on have had AC outlets for your chargers.

There are a lot of planes that don’t have charging capabilities, especially the smaller jets.
