About as old as a IH

"The G-class was developed as a military vehicle from a suggestion by the King of Iran (at the time a significant Mercedes shareholder) to Mercedes[5] and offered as a civilian version in 1979. In this role it is sometimes referred to as the "Wolf". The Peugeot P4 was a variant made under licence in France with a Peugeot engine. The first military in the world to use it was the Argentine Army (Ejército Argentino) beginning in 1981 with the military model 461."

That AMG is one ugly car, as are all the early, modern Benzs.

From the original link "That engine is powerful enough to give the AMG G63 pretty bonkers acceleration times for a giant SUV: zero-to-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds and a top speed of 149 mph with the AMG Driver's Package."

Nice

It’s almost a shame. The original ‘G’ is one of the most capable 4x4’s you can buy stock (along with the Toyota Land Cruiser). It was only when the rich discovered that it was expensive (and hence exclusive) that it became popular with their crowd (again, same with the Toyota). At least the vehicle lines weren’t dumbed down (lose their 4x4 credentials all together).

Our local school district has several high income areas. I believe there are 3 kids at the local high school that drives them. I know one kid drives a Lambo too.

Even if I had unlimited $$ I would not buy a car like that for my kid.
