Replacing the video card in my 2009 flashed 2010 Mac Pro got me thinking about the future. Maybe I don't need a tower configuration anymore? Would I be fine with a Mac Mini with an i7 and Thunderbolt 3 with eGPU? Maybe an MacBook Air with TB3? Anyone doing this? I still have my ol' 30" Apple Cinema Display working well for me.

Still loving my roll-my-own RX580 - detailed in my post history.

You setup would work with a minimum of hassle - plug and play with the proper gpu. Can accelerate the display you have now or power another.
