Line on iMac screen - any hope?
#1
This line just started to appear on my mom's mid-2011 21" iMac. Any reasonable fix possible, or is time for a new computer?

I have to ask the obvious- did you restart?

Google it. Some folks have apparently fixed vertical lines by various resets. I think it’s more likely a video card or video cable issue. (For the adventurous, you can always pop your video card in an oven!)

Good luck. iFixIt is a good site to check out.

Cheap fix is to use an External monitor and have dual screens. I was gifted a old iMac years back with worse lines than that and it ran for years using an external display,

It's a FEATURE not a BUG!

as other have said, and a few others:

-restart
-reset various things: PRAM, SMC, etc
-test external monitor if available
-see if it shows up in screen shots.
-see if shows up in a new user account
-take note of position and size, and see if it gets worse in the next few days/weeks

Thanks for all the suggestions thus far. Have tried several of them; no luck yet. Will continue to monitor the monitor, but a newish iMac may be in the future.
