[why do some Amazon sellers use square brackets like these at the beginning of each line?]

I suspect most of these are listings by Chinese companies/vendors, but I do not understand where these square brackets come from. Is this somehow a Chinese tradition to emphasize some words, like we would normally underline or use BOLD in English?

They used OCR software to scan the description from a paper-insert and it used brackets to indicate bold-type.

That would assume they are English language users, which they likely aren't.
