I needed to build an external new drive, and I wanted a new case. Did some googling, and went here to find this thread:
https://forums.macresource.com/read.php?...sg-2596134
I purchased the ELUTENG M.2 NVME and SATA NGFF Enclosure Dual Protocol USB3.1
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08H22...00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Added a nice 1TB Crucial M.2 drive (purchased from Newegg):
This is only USB and not TB, but the speeds are really great as an external.
Ran tests on two Macs:
1) 2018 MBPR gave over 900Mbps read and write via the USBC cable. This is almost half as fast as the built-in SSD from Apple, amazing given this is not a TB interface. This is more than fast enough to consider using as a boot drive even without the TB extra cost.
2) 2013 MBA gave over 400 Mbps via USBA to USBC cable, nearly the same speed as the internal SSD from Apple.
Thanks for the great info here on MRF!

Sekker,
Excellent! Glad you found the info in the forum useful! Only one thing to add to your post. Based on my own experience as well as what I've seen from others in the forum, avoid Orico enclosure. I'll be nice and say they're problematic.
Robert

Glad it's working for you.
FYI, those are very close to the speeds I'm seeing with that enclosure.
