some iPhoto questions

I moved from a G5 to a Xeon recently. There are now the following folders in iPhoto Library folder:
Data
Modified
Originals
Recovered

There seems to be a lot of duplication in these. Is there one "Master" folder ... perhaps Originals, and I could toss the others?

3000 photos take up a lot of space, even with the drive space I have.
