I are evacuated… Dammit
#1
Landlady’s son called last night, the order came out to “LEAVE NOW.”

Now for me, now was an hour and a half, or so. Packed some stuff, cats and cat supplies, and am in town with friends.

Forum members will be proud that I backed up my iMac and took the external drives with me.

CalFire twitter feed for the one near me: https://mobile.twitter.com/CALFIRECZU

Sadly, the smoke has been so thick that aerial fire suppression is not possible. Sure would help if they could…

That would be swell, but the last rain on Saturday also had the lightning that set all the fires. Non-electrical storms are welcome!

yeah, smoke is awful this morning.

Im the blue dot in the middle -- we are "in a smoke plume" apparently https://fire.airnow.gov/?lat=38.78819632430419&lng=-121.32450733621572&zoom=10#

Stay safe wave rider!

Hmm, that pic suggests there are some drawbacks to a 20% O2 atmosphere.

Ooo, ooo, I can see our local SoCal fire on there. What a small world.

Sorry to hear that!

I’ve been doing lots of fuel reduction and wildfire prevention work on my Oregon place, but much, much more to do. A few years ago a fire started by branches touching powerlines. It burned to within a few feet of my property, and even after it was “out” it smoldered in the ground for several days.

Curious if similar work has been done in your area/ property?

I rent and think there should be more clearing on the property. One side of the property has a line of eucalyptus trees and I bet those will burn like Roman candles. I am hopeful that the fire doesn’t reach the property since it is more open space/agriculture and not in the dense trees.

To all who find themselves affected by these fires: Stay safe.

To wave rider: Maybe time to consider purchasing a MBP? Big Grin

You may know that Santa Barbara is chock full of eucalyptus trees. A friend of mine who lives there told me that during the last big fire they had in SB, the eucalyptus trees were actually exploding.
