Awesome weather here in NC. We hit 79 for a high and it was 57 this
morning. Nicest weather I believe I can remember for Labor Day weekend.

The National Weather Service (NWS) said Los Angeles County saw its highest temperature on official record Sunday after a high of 121 degrees Fahrenheit was recorded in the San Fernando Valley earlier in the day.
The federal agency said the temperature was recorded around noon in Woodland Hills at Pierce College, which runs one of the country’s oldest cooperative weather stations.

Today I discovered that my thermostats only have two digits for displaying the room temperature, and they the display "0L" when it's above 99.

The local news stations kept repeating that 121 deg F temperature that they had out in Woodland Hills. It would be uncomfortable even if dry, and this wasn't perfectly dry.
If they were to put a weather station in Titus Canyon in Death Valley, they might routinely get temperatures in the 140s. At least that is what the Park Service told us one time. They will not let you enter Titus Canyon in the summer months for this reason. They do have an official temperature measurement service at Badwater or Furnace Creek (fairly close to each other) and it got back to 131 this year if I recall correctly. It's a beautiful place but a bit warm in the summer months.
I'm wondering whether this week's heat wave has anything to do with global warming. Not entirely clear, but there is a possibility.
I was in a Zoom meeting yesterday morning, and the people from the valley kept telling us how hot it was getting (above 110 in some places). I playfully typed into the chat that San Pedro was getting into the upper 70s and if it kept up, I might have to leave the meeting. Today, San Pedro hit 100.

I saw that west coast heat wave in the news. Even as far east as Colorado is setting records.
Here in Michigan, I took my window air conditioner out Thursday evening after looking at the long range forecast. The highest temperature we have in the forecast for the next month is 76F with lots of lows in the 40s.
It's weird. We normally have a good amount of hot weather through September.
Edit: the forecast high for tomorrow (Tuesday) is supposed to be 61F. Brrr.
