......Bob Odenkirk is about to kick.....major buTT.....

......buTT......the 72 Challenger in the film is described as having a 4.9liter V8. first off back then they didn't rate engine in Liters, they used Cubic inches. second, they only offered the 3.7L - 224 CID inline slant 6, the 5.1L - 318 V8 CID, and the 5.6L -340 CID V8 in 1972. to the best of my knowledge Chrysler never made a 4.9L v8. but did make a 4.9 HP outboard engine for boats.......

Closest would be if there was an uncorrected typo somewhere along the line. They did make two different engines that were 5.9L V8s, the small block 360 and large block 361.

Chrysler did make a VERY limited run of a 303 CID I believe. It was part of their entrant to a road racing series in '69. Ford had their 302, Chevy made their 302 for the Camaro, and Chrysler had their 303. Pontiac made a special 301 for the Trans Am, but not the same as the later 301. I believe it was a 5 liter limit for the series. Not sure if this was why the Boss 302 was built originally.

But the Chrysler 303 wouldn't have been used in a production '72

You are going to need to find a serious Mopar geek to find out more. I just know this little bit.
