... I just went to the Louisiana voting portal (out of curiosity) to see if they'd made any changes, and this is what I now see:

"Absentee Request
Request Type
What is the reason for this absentee by mail request? *

Senior Citizen
I am 65 years of age or older.
Disabled/Homebound **
I have been previously approved in the Disability Program, or I am disabled or homebound.
I am a resident of a nursing home
The Nursing Home Early Voting Program includes veterans' homes and extended hospital stays for a physical disability where the Registrar of Voters will go to the facility for early voting.
I am a member of the United States Service , or a spouse or dependent thereof, living in the United States
I am a member of the United States Service , or a spouse or dependent thereof, living overseas
I am residing outside of the United States
I have been affected by COVID-19
I am unable to vote in person because I am...

At higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 due to serious underlying medical conditions as identified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (including chronic lung disease, moderate to severe asthma, hypertension or other serious heart conditions, diabetes, undergoing chemotherapy, severe obesity (BMI of 40 or higher), chronic kidney disease and undergoing dialysis, liver disease, pregnancy, or immunocompromised due to cancer treatment, smoking, bone marrow or organ transplantation, immune deficiencies, poorly controlled HIV or AIDS, and prolonged use of corticosteroids and other immune weakening medications)
Subject to a medically necessary quarantine or isolation order as a result of COVID-19
Advised by a health care provider to self-quarantine due to COVID-19 concerns
Experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 and seeking a medical diagnosis
Caring for an individual, name of , who is subject to a medically necessary quarantine or isolation order as a result of COVID-19 or who has been advised by a health care provider to self-quarantine due to COVID-19 concerns.
General application
For all other reasons
** I understand that by making this selection, I will need to submit current proof of disability to the Registrar of Voters if I have not previously done so, prior to being eligible to receive my absentee ballot.
Proof of disability documents include:

A copy of a current mobility impaired identification card issued by the Office of Motor Vehicles
A copy of documentation showing eligibility for Social Security disability benefits, veteran’s disability benefits, paratransit services, benefits from the office for citizens with developmental disabilities, or benefits from Louisiana Rehabilitation Services, or
Physician’s letter certifying my disability
I will also submit with my proof of disability document a copy of either my Louisiana driver’s license, Louisiana special ID card, other generally recognized photo ID that contains my name and signature, or a letter where I have listed the names and addresses of 2 persons residing in my precinct who can make oath, if required, to the effect that I am physically disabled.

Note: Selecting Senior Citizen, Disabled/Homebound, or Nursing Home above will entitle you to receive an absentee ballot by mail automatically for all elections hereafter if the registrar determines that you are eligible and no ballot is returned to the registrar as undeliverable or you cancel your request."

... meanwhile, I still haven't heard back from them about my disability-based absentee ballot request. I wonder if they were waiting on it because of the result of this court decision, since if I had had the option, I would have chosen the "I am at higher risk of severe illness..." option.

God bless Gov. Edwards, is all I'm going to say. Whether they want to admit it or not, this is a victory for all the people in my state.

Yup, it doesn't affect me directly, since I'd already put in my disability application, but...

I really don't like the idea of ANYONE being forced to risk their health in order to be able to vote. That is truly unAmerican.
