Fact checkers saying that Harris is NOT the first POC to be VP
#1
This guy was:

he was 1/8 Kaw Indian

Our ruling: True
The claim in the post has been rated TRUE. While Kamala Harris is the first woman, the first woman of color, the first South Asian American and the first Black American vice president, she is not the first person of color to hold the office. Charles Curtis, vice president from 1929-1933, is the first person of color to hold the office.

That's the USA Today - weird BS if you ask me...

1/8th doesn't qualify IMHO.

Never understood why anyone would grow an unkempt mustache like that.

Trim it away from the mouth, dude!

He was supposedly 3/8. That's nearly half!

If he could get served at a white lunch counter in Mississippi, he was not a POC.

honestly, that's a better definition than any % one could come up with. Because that's what is really significant here - Harris is a person that would not have been served at that counter and now she's VP.

W/E

She's the current VP and to the oldest sitting President in history.

She's got her own spot in the history books, and I hope she adds plenty more to her first chapter.

I’m sure that’s appreciated by people of color, particularly indigenous people everywhere.

”He was born in 1860 in Topeka, Kansas, to his white father and his mother, who was one-quarter Kaw Indian.”

After being taken in by his grandparents, Curtis grew up on a reservation from the age of five years old.

While I’m sure it wasn’t meant so, that little aphorism, is in fact about as vacuous and ignorant a statement on being a POC as I’ve read in a good, long while.

While these signposts of progress have their place, in the end, they are more symbol than substance. Grand total Black Presidents: 1. Grand total POC as VP: 2. Grand total of women VPs: 1. Hurrah.

But do I really have to go through a laundry list of the monumental hurdles our country/society still has to conquer in achieving equality and a level playing field?

Harris is a woman of massive achievements. She in no way has the slightest need to play tug of war with others striving in the same struggle over another societal pageant sash.

C'mon dude... Cool  Every couple of years it's fun to mess w/ the 'stache for a few days in between "looks"...!
 2018     2020

  1975     2015

BTW, most Native American tribes only require 1/16th blood to get benefits..... so IOW, if the Indian casinos had somehow proliferated during the Great Depression, ol' Chuckie Curtis there might've skipped out on politics, because 1/8th seemingly does qualify; though Acer's postulate is spot on.

BTW2, the 1975 'stache was about six years into that "look" (except for a couple of years of long hair and scruff during that pesky Vietnam conflict), which lasted until 1993, when I went clean shaven for a year to win, er, not lose a bet. After that, the "looks" rotated fairly frequently, until around 2006/2007 before stabilizing on the "new normal" as shown a la 2015. As noted, every couple of years since, we'll mess w/ the 'stache only look for a little while, then usually grow a full, 3-4 week beard at that point, just long enough enough to trim it back to the new, and current normal look. Spousal unit does not tolerate Mr. Curtis' level of unkemptness, though I can appreciate that he was able to pull it off; at least long enough for the picture to get taken. OTOH, that tie and shirt collar are hideous.
