$2k from CDW. Was going to buy a Power Computing Mac clone but Apple had just lowered their prices.
Wasn't too long before I found the forum at DealMac and now here.

I bought a PM 7300 as my parent's first Mac and later on directed my Dad to install a PCI USB card in it over the phone which is pretty good as he never used it, or any computer, for anything. It was really for my Mom and she got loads of use from it. She currently uses a 2017 MacBook.

I have a PM8600 logic board in a 7300 case. I used to post to the DealMac forum from it.
It sits unused on a shelf, but has earned a permanent place in my army of Macs.

About the same time, I got my first computer, a used PM8500 purchased from an Apple employee. He wanted an upgrade…

Sweet. One of my all time favorite Macs. I bought mine from that store on the back of the New York Times. JR or something like that. I dated the woman on the phone that sold me the computer package, which in retrospect sounds insane.
7300 retired to the back bedroom in 2005 with my cat Kiddy (mouse-catcher).

Steve,
I still have a PM 7300. That was such a great machine! Upgraded the processor. Added a USB card. RAM. swapped drives. You name it. Makes me wish Apple would finally release a a Mac Mini Pro, which would be a Mac Mini with some internal upgradeability.

Friend asked what to buy. I suggested the MAC IIVX that had just come out. It was out for a very short time... What a loss that was

Dad and I picked up an Apple ][+ for him in '79. I bought it from him when he upgraded to a ][e. Picked up a Mac Plus (used) in '87 to do some contract Aldus Pagemaker. I must have replaced the flyback transformer twice before it finally burned all the way up. Carried that beast out to Edwards AFB with an Imagerwriter II to do process documentation for a defense project. I had that carry case for the computer.. carried it on the plane and everything Then found a used SE/30. I've had a rough rule.. never pay more than $500 for a computer for myself.
