Well, that was my belief too, but here is some background on the crisis. I was remembering the old joke about "heaven is where all the policemen are English, all the mechanics are German, cooks/lovers/etc and hell is where all the policemen are German, all the cooks are English, all the lovers are..." what?
French, I suppose, but then who are the cooks? Fine Italian cuisine is actually pretty darn good, but most people would (I thought) say French is tops. Which makes the Italians the lovers, I guess. I do admit they have that reputation for enthusiasm as well, but what about Pepe LePew? He was the epitome of enthusiasm, and "LePew" sounds French...but then again, "Pepe"? Oh my god, maybe he was Spanish, who also have a reputation for hot-bloodedness.
At at that point I became sure of nothing, and my world started to crumble. I knew I had to turn here.
My Google-foo does indicate that Pepe is a Spanish name.

A secondary impetus to my wandering wondering today was a piece on the radio about a short Netflix documentary entitled "What Would Sophia Loren do?". Anyway, that got me to thinking about how the French have this reputation as red-hot lovers, but mostly only the men if so; most of the non-American movie "bombshells" during my my lifetime were Italian. Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, Elke Sommer - wait, she was German - did I say Sophia Loren?
Well, anyway, it seemed to my forever-teenaged brain like the red-hot lovers on the silver screen of the foreign and female type were always Italian. Yes, there was Pepe, but maybe he was actually Basque or something. But French femme fatales? Not so much.

Brigitte Bardot. She was the inspiration for the phrase “sex kitten.”
I don’t think the French are known so much for being “red hot lovers” as they are for their extremely high level of comfort with issues of sexuality.

I use Adaptec Toast 4.1.2 for all my burning needs. I think Roxio has bought the rights, and it may have a higher version number now.

Pepe, undoubtably French, mais oui?
The most common version of the joke I’ve seen:
In Heaven the policemen are English, the cooks are French, the mechanics are German, the lovers are Italian and it's all organised by the Swiss. In Hell the policemen are German, the cooks are English, the mechanics are Italian, the lovers are Swiss and it's all organised by the French.

Why not? It's very reliable under System 7.
Just don't upgrade to Mac OS 9.
