Suggestion: Sign up for Qobuz at $14.99/month (you can cancel at anytime), put the Qobuz app on your iPhone/iPad and enjoy an amazing variety of music (all CD quality resolution or better). Plus you can buy downloads (at a usually reasonable price) of all the albums you stream, without any DRM restrictions.

I signed up for a lifetime subscription almost 16 years ago. Right now, based on what I paid, I've averaged a little over $2/month, and with every passing month, that monthly rate keeps getting smaller. I can pay a $35 fee to transfer the subscription to another device, which I may do as my original radio doesn't have some of the features that the newer ones have.

Good luck with that transfer.

I then threatened to get my lawyer involved and register a complaint with the FCC and the Attorney General's office and miraculously, "the computer just updated your account information and I can give you that offer..."

...And did I mention that shortly before I cut ties with them I switched the subscription to a temporary credit card number because I was concerned about fraudulent charges, and then a couple of days after I canceled the subscription they re-opened the account and charged a card that I had used with them years earlier?
This is when you should have made those calls to the FCC and the AG's office anyway.

Why do business with a company whose entire operating model is based on jerking their customers around?

That's my problem. I don't want to deal with them, but other than streaming through my phone, which I don't really want to do, there doesn't seem to be another option.
Question is, is it worth the pain once or twice a year?
I pay them barstards $14 a month out of sheer laziness rgG. Don't be that person. I'm about to call them now and I'll tell you what my new deal is.
Time out:
Ok, I'm back. Turns out I was paying $20+ a month for my service. I use the app more than in the car. I also, still wanted All-Access which includes the app.
Rachel made me a deal for $10.02 per month for 12 months and I say yes Rachel. I need to call them a day before a year from now and get another promotional deal. They have cheaper deals which you can ask Rachel about.

I have renewed for a year-long $5/month deal twice without much pain. The first renewal was by phone, the second was online. The online renewal was a little confusing; it initially looked like I could do it without having to deal with chat. It might have worked, but it was showing me two different amounts and I didn't want to have to fight for a refund so I started a chat and had the online rep do it.
The trick is to act before your current deal expires. Even if they don't want to give another $5 deal to a current customer, the worst that can happen is you cancel and go without for a week or a month.

So proud of you.

I've had them forever-and I upgrade vehicles a lot, so I was getting the free intro. That started at a year, then six months, then three months, and I think it may be 30 days now.
I do the dance every six months. Can't afford it, don't want it, etc. and when they offer the deal I relent.
I recently bought a 2000 Super Duty for my business (I guess that's what Carnies do instead of buying a Vette when we hit a certain age) and bought an after market radio off eBay that had a lifetime sub attached to it. Bought a CD adapter, that feeds the sound system directly. Had a long stretch this week in the truck, Ann Arbor to Nashville, to Peoria to Ann Arbor, and the radio didn't miss a beat.
If things ever get back to normal, I spend an awful lot of time driving, so for me it's worth while-at least for $5 or $6 a month. I just can't get my head around $20 a month.

I have had a subscription going back to around 2005. I got rid of the charge card payments years ago and get them to send me an invoice. There’s a $2 fee for it but it’s worth it as I don’t want them having my card. I generally take it for 5 or 6 months and at this point when I call there is no silliness, no having to cancel, no gyrations. They just say we see you have been a long standing customer and they pretty much just offer to continue my plan. I’m off the phone in less than 10 minutes.
This exactly on all points!
Been doing the same thing for years. Don’t give them your cc. Get an invoice. Set a reminder. Spend 5-10 min on the phone every 6 months and just keep getting the same deal over and over. Despite others’ complaints, I have never had an issue.

Of all the companies that have "subscription models," SiriusXM has always been the easiest to deal with. I set a reminder on my phone for a few days before my plan expires and call them. Tell them that I want to renew at the $5-6/month plan and want the longest contract extension they can give me at the present time. Sometimes I have to repeat my request a few times while they cycle through other, more expensive options. I never fail to get that deal, however. I now have all 3 cars timed up on the same subscription time-frame, so they are either retaining 3 vehicles or losing 3 vehicles.
