This is the legendary Midtown location. In the 90's I'd go to buy 2 donuts, think they were kinda small and ask for 4, then say just make it an even 6. They'd say for 2 bucks more I could get a dozen and I'd say cool, then they'd say, for a few bucks more you make it 2 dozen, so I'd always walk out with 2 boxes of them

When I first came to Atlanta in 1976 for grad school, I drove to the school very early in the morning as I arrived in Atlanta and it was closed. So I drove around a bit and found that Krispy Kreme on Ponce. I was from the Bay Area and had never been in the south. The Hot Now sign was lit and I went in, bought a couple and thought I'd died and gone to heaven. As I recall there was a window where you could watch the doughnuts being made and dunked in the glaze as they trundled along on a conveyer belt. I hope the burning wasn't complete and they rebuild.
We have a Krispy Kreme in our town as well as a Dunkin. I stay away from both because I can't stop once I start. I've never been tempted by the ones for sale in a box in Kroger; if they're not fresh off the conveyer they don't matter to me.

truly sad, but not "burned down"...
CBS Atlanta wrote:
Battalion Chief Douglas Hatcher says it's very early in the investigation
and a cause is unknown. He's also not aware of any injuries.
Despite the raging flames, Hatcher says crews were able to save a
majority of the building.

That's sad. I remember going there after a night out at bars in Virginia Highlands, and easily putting away 6 hot donuts.

Oh no!
I didn’t hear about this. That place is iconic. I hope it reopens soon.
At my first job out of college we used to have booth at some of the industry trade shows. I was usually in charge of our trade shows and had to be there all day. In the morning we would have coffee and donuts for our customers. I do not want to even think how many donuts I would eat each day.

In the "I did not know that" department, the current owner of that store is Shaquille O'Neal.
