iPhone 12 MagSafe charging question
#1
I have an iPhone 12 and a MagSafe wireless thingie, works OK. I do understand there are cheaper options out there, so I was looking for a second unit. I came across this

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07THHQMHM/

it does work with iPhone SE 2020, but "Not Compatible with MagSafe Magnetic Charging"

So does it work with iPhone 12? does Apple have multiple wireless charing standards? I am so confused.

I have an iPhone 12 Pro and have this:

Yootech Wireless Charger, Qi-Certified 10W Max Fast Wireless Charging Pad Compatible with iPhone 12/12 Mini/12 Pro Max/SE 2020/11 Pro Max,Samsung Galaxy S21/S20/Note 10/S10,AirPods Pro(No AC Adapter)

It’s $11.99 but a coupon on the page drops the price by $2.00. It works fine for me with a case on my 12Pro, also works with my wife’s iPhone 11. Cheaply made but I expect it’s probably the same as the one in your link.

I just noticed that the Anker in your link does not list compatibility with the iPhone 12. If you look at the bottom comparisons you’ll see others that are compatible with the 12, my Yootech included.

yes, this is why I asked. So your Yootech works with both iPhone SE and 12, but:

Apple MagSafe works only with iPhone 12 (SE 2020 is not listed as MagSafe compatible)
Anker works with iPhone SE but not 12.

So there are multiple wireless charging standards? Disappointing.

Yes, MagSafe and Qi- compatible chargers are different. MagSafe charging can use more power and charge faster.

From Apple:
Your MagSafe Charger is designed for faster and most efficient charging with iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, and Apple MagSafe accessories.
When charging a non-MagSafe Qi-compatible device with a MagSafe Charger, power is reduced and charge times may be slower than on a typical Qi charger.

I have that Anker charger, but for other reasons I had put it away, so I pulled it out to check. It does appear to charge my iPhone 12 Pro Max (phone is already near a full charge, but it buzzed and the charging icon showed up).

Regular "wireless" chargers are limited to 7.5W on iPhones. When you use a "Magsafe" charger, you can get up to 20W. But any wireless charger should still work, it'll just be limited to 5W or 7.5W depending on the charger.
