Well, that pretty much defines REI's business model...

I'm liking the 30th Anniversary Messenger Bag.

I prefer Apple screen sharing or Remote Access over a VPN.

yup. They jumped the shark when they started selling urban walking clothes in mall adjacent stores.

Hey, wait. Now that mom and dad have both passed, I think I can get their 4 digit member number assigned to me.

In the past, Timbuk2 made some very high quality kit that lasted for years of daily use.

I didn't own any, but a friend did and loved what he had.

It was pricey years back, so the REI prices may have been a function of Timbuck2's pricing, I have no idea.

I looked at their sales stuff and didn't see anything that caught my eye.

That's probably because of no longer having a need to cart a lot of stuff around.

I’ll never buy another of their products. I purchased a very expensive rolling travel bag that was specifically marketed to world travelers. The thing was crap. It had an internal frame that exploded into a million tiny plastic pieces on my first trip with it. Timbuk2 refused to honor their warranty. By the time I got home it wasn’t even worth donating what was left of the bag. I’ll not miss an opportunity to warn fellow travelers away from their gear. They had one opportunity to save their reputation and they missed it spectacularly.

....their older stuff used to be 'sturdier'....newer stuff is made more to 'look good' than perform well....
